Discover your Dosha and follow an Ayurvedic path to radiant health that's tailored to your individual needs!

Ayurveda (Sanskrit for the "science of life"), is the world's oldest health system, originating in ancient India over 5000 years ago. The sister science of yoga, Ayurveda provides us with the framework of how to care for our bodies for beauty, balance and longevity. Ayurveda's core belief is that we each have our own unique path to health, which Idiot's Guides: Ayurveda will help you reveal. Author Sahara Rose focuses on the mind-body connection and explains that our food and lifestyle choices are metabolized into molecules in our bodies, actively creating who we are.

Sahara brings the age-old wisdom of Ayurevda into relatable terms and shows you how easy it is to integrate ancient Ayurvedic wisdom into your modern lifestyle so you can finally look, feel and eat exactly the way your entire being has been craving.

The book includes:
Discovering your unique Dosha (Ayurvedic Mind-Body Type) and how it shows up in your physiology, metabolism, digestion, thought patterns, personality and even dreams.
Learning how your body's needs change according to the season, environment, time of day, lifestyle habits, stress, sleep and exercises levels and as you age
Easy-to-make plant-based recipes and yoga poses specifically for your Doshic constitution
Establishing an Ayurvedic morning and nighttime ritual, including oil-pulling, dry-brushing, tongue-scraping and self-oil massage for optimal balance and beauty
Home remedies to heal digestion, candida overgrowth, intestinal parasites, skin problems, headaches, PMS, hormonal imbalance, colds, flus and other ailments
How to incorporate Ayurvedic practices into your lifestyle, no matter how little time you have or experience in the kitchen

Thank you so much!!!!! Pick this book up if you are serious about Healing your MIND Body and SOUL

I am only on page 12 and yes I gave this book a 5 star review. Here is why... I am not new to Aryuveda but also certainly not an expert. I even have seen an Aryuveda practitioner, drink my tulsi tea, take my herbs shatavari and ashwagabdha, tongue scrape, pranayama, ashtangha, and on and on. Have I been consistent NO! And here is why, because the key to sticking with anything is to 1. Have motivation which I have being of vata mind and body that are imbalanced and 2. Understand why you are doing what you are doing... key word understand. Being 💯 % honest most and I won't say all Aryuveda books and practitioners are not teaching on a level of modern understanding and how Aryuveda principles really can serve us. Reading the first 5 pages Sahara says what I have been thinking all along... how can this ancient beautiful system apply to me in a simple format... no one has hours to be making kitchari, rubbing oil on my body and doing most of the recommended practices. This review will be updated once I finish the book but for now 5 stars for keeping it real, already teaching me so much in the first 12 pages, simple format, and how the book is constructed. I am truly excited about the future chapters. This book will be my tool and resource for everything and I can already tell I will purchsse many copies for me and others . Thank you Sahara for sticking your intuition and making us teaching us something so valuable in a simple format!

This is 'THE' Ayurveda book!

I am so grateful to have come across Sahara Rose a few months ago. Her podcasts, site, course, and now this book have helped me to learn more about Ayurveda, and to better understand it. This book is well-organized. It gives you a basic understanding of Ayurveda before diving into the specifics you need at any point in your life. The chapter on Prakriti and Vikruti really helped me understand the need to re-evaluate my body's needs. 3 was the most important part because I strongly feel everyone needs morning routines and nightly rituals to open and close the day. I've been researching Ayurveda for over a year and I felt that this book provided info that is hard to find anywhere else. I have rarely read about the Dhatus and Koshas. Part 4 on nutrition showcases Sahara's unique training in the areas of nutrition. The last part on healing is extremely helpful- just this week we discovered a candida issue in my family. I now feel I have some tools to work with. This will surely serve as a quick reference in the future.

informative but poorly edited

I found some of the suggestions and practices extremely helpful. Some of the claims in the book awoke my inner skeptic, and I resolved to do further research. For example, Ayurveda does not advocate eating salad, which is the opposite view of every health practitioner I've ever encountered. The idea is that colder foods are not ideal for proper digestion. While reading, I sometimes felt that Ayurveda really can be practiced by anyone, and I liked the author's suggestion to adapt one new habit each week. On the other hand, some suggestions will not work for everyone. For example, she emphasizes the importance of being asleep by 10 pm and awake by 6 am with the sunrise, but what about people who work at night? I also would have really liked to see footnotes or a chapter with references. It's hard to take scientific claims at face value, such as, "Drink warm water throughout the day. This increases your metabolism by 30%." Where did that figure come from? Another claim is that food becomes "nearly nutritionally void" 24 hours after chopping and cooking it. Where is the research to back up that claim? There were several grammatical errors in each chapter--words missing from sentences, punctuation omissions, incorrect use of apostrophes... etc. A lot of the information was also repetitive, with almost entire sentences being repeated within the same chapter and then in other chapters. It's hard to take information seriously when a book hasn't been well-edited. (I read the Kindle version). Overall, I think it's a good overview of Ayurveda, and I don't regret reading the book for the valuable information I received.

Great investment in your health!

Love, love, love this book! I was introduced to Ayurveda last year and many of the aspects of it resonated with me, but it can seem like a lot of information to understand. Sahara does a wonderful job of making the principals easy to understand and user friendly. I really like the way she modernized the techniques but also keeps the integrity of the ancient methods. Trying to be healthy these days can seem very confusing and overwhelming with all the information out there but this book has given me a lot of clarity about what is right for my body type. I know many people struggle with acne, including myself, and this book has been a great tool to understanding my pitta imbalances that have been causing breakouts. Just so grateful for her writing this book and sharing her knowledge! This isn't just a book you'll read one time, but something you'll continue to use as a resource for years to come. I also recommend checking out her other social media platforms and podcast for more great content!

Perfect for beginning to explore the practice of Ayurveda!

I recently discovered Sahara via I a podcast I listen to, “Chasing Joy.” I was enamored by her intelligent musings about health and wellness on the podcast, so I decided to check out her Instagram. I am SO glad I did, because it led me to this book, which has helped me begin dabbling in the practice of Ayurveda. As someone who is interested in natural, holistic healing (both physical and mental), this book has helped me to begin the process of balancing my body and ultimately my life. The body knows what it needs to do to heal itself, and this book has helped me both support and accept my body through working on balancing myself, and taking gentle, respectful, proper care of my body.

The BEST book on Ayurveda in my opinion!!

Sahara Rose has been a guiding light in my life for over a year now and I am so grateful! A year ago I was just following her on Instagram and then joined her 12 week program (eat right for your mind/body type! I absolutely loved the program and it helped me make simple but huge changes in my every day routine! So of course when I saw that she had finished writing the Idiots Guide to Ayurveda I knew I had to pre order it so I could get my hands on it ASAP! I cracked it open the other day to get started and even just at first glance I could see that Sahara went above and beyond to explain the basics, and the not so basics to the average person! I've really enjoyed what I've read so far and have been recommending this book to all of my friends, family and clients so that they too can reach total wellness for mind, spirit and body! Loving this book and know that it will be the source I go to if I have any questions on Ayurveda for years to come!

Wonderful book with lots of valuable information!

Sahara Rose is truly an inspiration to the art and science of Ayurveda. If you’re a beginner, her book is easy to read, Sahara Rose tailors it to modern day lifestyles, has so many examples to determine your dosha (or body constitution), breaking it all down in this easy to follow book of pure magic. If you’re already fairly well versed in Ayurveda, I’m sure there’s still loads of valuable information you could use in your lifestyle. Dosha explanations, food recommendations, self care, spices and herbs for healing, seasonal considerations, etc. This is a quality book you will gain so much valuable knowledge for self healing and awareness.

Some More Research Needed

So far, so good, but there is one particular area that needs updating. The author writes that meats should not be eaten regularly since they are difficult to digest and will sit in our bellies causing toxic accumulation. That assertion is absolute nonsense and is an antiquated folklore passed on my vegetarians. Time to remove it from the book. Although fat can slow the digestive process, meat and vegetables take about the same amount of time to get through your digestive tract. Meat gets broken down by stomach acid and digestive enzymes and then the small intestine breaks the proteins into amino acids and fats into fatty acid. Then they get absorbed over the digestive wall and into the bloodstream. There is nothing left to "rot". Humans are perfectly designed to digest meat, having ancestors who have consumed meat for millions of years. Ironically, what the body can't absorb is indigestible plant matter (fiber). That's the stuff that rots in your colon.

Beautifully written, and extremely helpful

Sahara is an amazing writer, and so knowledgeable. This book breaks down a topic that isn't so simple, in a way that's easy to understand and gets you excited about what you're learning. The book gives you recipes, oils, practices, and routines that are catered to your own body. It opened my eyes to how important it is to find out what works for you individually, and not follow general guidelines that might not work for our body specifically. Sahara is a brilliant and compassionate soul, and that really shines through in this book. Seriously a must have!
